Encrypt or digitally sign an email

Depending on the features enabled for your account, eclipso Mail Europe can encrypt an email with PGP or S/MIME and add a digital signature. The required keys or certificates must be available.

What is the difference?

  • Encryption: The content should be readable only by the intended recipients. A suitable public key or certificate must be available for every recipient.
  • Digital signature: The recipient can verify the origin and integrity of the message. A signature does not hide the content.

How to enable the feature:

  • Open the Encryption option while composing.
  • If offered, choose PGP or S/MIME.
  • Also enable Digitally sign if the message should be signed.
  • Check the recipients and key status, then send the email.

If a required key is missing, encryption cannot be completed successfully. Import or exchange the recipient's public key or certificate first. When needed, you can attach your public PGP key as an ASC file.

Add attachments before sending with Add in the Attachments field. You can select a local file or a file from eclipso Drive, confirm with OK, or drag local files into the compose area. For confidential attachments, check that they are protected together with the message.

Important: An encrypted message cannot be sent as certified email at the same time. Encryption protects the content but does not replace proof of delivery.
